Joyful Life Programs seeks to provide resources that will help you realize greater well being and a more joyful life. In our quest to resource you, we invite you to check out a message from Dr. Anthony White, Chiropractor and member of Seven Springs Church in Powder Springs, GA, which can be found on the Healthy Bodies and a Rhythm of Life Resource link at Joyful Life Programs.

Working from the definition that health is an optimal state of harmony between the human spirit, the human soul, and body according to the will and design of God, Dr. White shared that we can eliminate or decrease the chances of diseases in our lives, because God wants us to prosper in our health. In fact, we can trust this to be true because our God is a God who heals. As God said in Exodus 15:24, “…I am the Lord, who heals you,” which translated means Jehovah Rapha.

Recognizing this harmony between human spirit, human soul, and the physical body, Dr. White notes that we need to attend to all three areas for health.

First, we need to feed our spirit. Dr. White encourages us to begin each day with worship to God. Allow your first moments to be about praise and worship. Read your Bible, spend time in devotion. Be intentional about renewing and regenerate your spirit by spending time with God. That is where we find our purpose.

Second, we need to guard our soul and mind. This means that we need to be mindful about what we consume. Do you spend all your time watching the news? Are you consuming negative influences through social media? We need to engage in things that encourage us, not weigh us down. The soul is where we express Christ. As our minds are renewed, transformation happens. Therefore, the more time we spend with Christ, the more we start to think like him, which is how we achieve the mind of Christ.

Thirdly, we need to care for our physical bodies. Our bodies are important. As 1 Corinthians 6:19 reminds us, our bodies are the temple of God. We must take care of our physical bodies because it houses our spirit. And through this housing, we can do the work of Christ: to be the hands and feet of Christ.

So, what we can do to protect our physical body? Dr. White recommends four things:

  • Control our diet. Although our bodies constantly renew at the cellular level, if we fail to change our diet and our lifestyles, then the renewed cells become sick. We must eat right. Remember that our body is from God; therefore, our food must be from God as well. Cut back on processed foods. Be sure to drinking plenty of water.
  • We have a genetic requirement to exercise. That requirement is built in our DNA. But when we live a sedentary lifestyle, we effectively switch off those genes. According to Dr. White, by walking three times a week for 30 minutes a day, we can decrease all causes of mortality by 70%.
  • We need to avoiding toxins. Again, be mindful about what you put in your body or on your skin. Toxins have negative impact to our health and bodies.
  • Learn to relax – Laughter is good for the soul so, take time to laugh. Learn to relax by spending time with family members and loved ones. According to Dr. White, the number one contributor to increased physical health is healthy relationships.

3 John 1:2 tells us, “Dear friend, I pray that you may enjoy good health and that all may go well with you, even as your soul is getting along well.” This is our prayer for you, that you might enjoy good health for truly this is God’s desire for you.
