Part 4

Chairman Smith and Ranking Members of Congress, I thank you for granting me the opportunity to share my written testimony on the subject of Chen Guangcheng’s escape to and departure from the US Embassy in Beijing. I also thank Chairman Smith and Paul Protic for bravely trying to go to China to help Chen.

I have long admired Secretary Hillary Clinton as a female world leader. She inspired a whole generation—myself included—at the UN Women’s Conference in 1995 when she declared that “women’s rights are human rights.” She spoke those oft-quoted words in Beijing...

[Last month, a forced abortion took place in the coastal province of Shandong, China. Because the victim’s family has since agreed to a compromise with the government, All Girls Allowed will not publicize any real names or addresses in order to protect their identity.]

SHANDONG, China – In April 2013, a group of Family Planning officials ambushed a man and his pregnant wife (Mr. and Mrs. T) while they were returning home after visiting her relatives. Eight of the officials took Mrs. T’s husband to a small, undisclosed hotel while the...

We are thrilled that Chen Guangcheng and his family will soon arrive in the US. This is an amazing answer to prayer. It is also a direct response to the outpouring of public support and media coverage that followed Chen’s escape in late April.

The attention Chen’s plight received played a major role in shaping the events that followed. Representative Chris Smith (R-NJ) organized two hearings that galvanized the press and gave Chen a chance to speak publicly about his cause and his family’s struggle. Others, including Mitt Romney, used their voices to highlight Chen’s...
